This Father’s Day – we sat down with our very own working Dads to understand more about what they enjoy being a Dad in the workplace.
In March, we sat down with our working Mums to find out how they balance being a Mum with their career. Through the launch of this series, the conversation began. It is easy to label women with children in employment as a; ‘working Mum’ or ‘career Mum’ but should Dads be given similar labels? It is rare to see men with children being labelled as a ‘working Dad’ or ‘career Dad’ – or to even read content focused on this subject.
Gender roles are changing - particularly with the evolution of the modern family - the historical perception of the role of 'Dad' has changed, with women choosing to work more and flexible working offering both parents the opportunity to be on-call for their children. This is supported by the introduction of laws such as ‘shared parental leave’ becoming a popular choice for Dads' with newborns.
As one example – many organisations choose to build paternity packages into their employee proposition to differentiate themselves and stand out as employers.
At The ONE Group, we understand how unpredictable looking after children can be, but also how the responsibility should not just lie with working Mums. We choose to offer our employed parents the opportunity to take one of their annual sick days for every day their child may be ill or absent from school. As well as this we give our consultants the opportunity to work flexibly and manage their own time. This means unlike some organisations, our employees are not required to use holiday leave to cover when their children are ill.
This Father’s Day, we thought it would be interesting to sit down with a handful of our working Dads' to see what their views are on the subject.
