Tell us about your TOG journey: I joined TOG in May 2016 and it wasn’t an easy move after working for myself for 10 years but I wanted to be part of something again as being your own boss can be quite a lonely place! Working here has been a journey that I would recommend to anyone who wants to work for a business that values its people as well as provides you with opportunities to expand your horizons as you see fit. I can say with my hand on my heart that TOG is the best business I have ever worked for.

What got you into recruitment: After resigning from a role with nothing to go to waaaaay back in the day – a risky move, I know! – I walked into a large corporate recruiter to ask them to find me a role and they asked me if I’d ever thought of recruitment as a career. Had I? No. But I had nothing to lose so gave it a whirl and 25 years later, here I am!

Why you love recruitment: It’s cliché but true. I love the interaction with people, I am naturally nosy and I thrive off finding out what makes people tick and being able to find great candidates and great companies to work for. My motto is that there is a home for everyone and it’s not just about CVs, it’s about the person behind the document, which is why I think good recruiters will continue to have a place, in spite of ever-advancing AI. For the record, despite my ‘slightly’ advanced years, I love new technology and gadgets!

Your thoughts on 2023: It was a tough year both professionally and personally but we made it to the end! The recruitment market started off with a bang and candidates were in control, but as the months ticked by, the balance of ‘power’ shifted and clients were able to call the shots more. That said, great candidates remained in short supply, and being in the area we find ourselves; we were blessed with a buoyant market throughout the year in broad terms.

What you have planned for 2024: I have a strange obsession with even numbers and think that 2024 is going to be a great year. It’s started well in terms of confidence from a market perspective and I think that success is there for the making. That said, I am mindful of treating people as you would want to be treated. People’s memories are long and like everyone, I made mistakes last year. I’m never going to be perfect, but I’m going to do my level best to be the partner to both clients and candidates alike.

Oh, and I’m going back to Las Vegas!!!!!!
