After starting my working life as a Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor, I was fortunate enough to be offered the chance to move abroad and set up and manage a restaurant/bar. Slightly random as I had no experience, but I'm not one to pass up the opportunity to live in a hotter climate, I packed my bags and went.
2 years of living the dream and reality hit that I should probably find a ‘proper job’ so I returned to the UK and began selling holidays for a large recognised brand. Loved it, (mainly for the discounted holiday benefits) and I was actually quite good at it! After being recognised as one of the top sellers in the company, I needed a new challenge. I applied for my next role in an estate agency with the mindset, selling houses would be the same as selling holidays but with more commission, right?
At my interview, they noticed I had trained as an accountant and asked if I would be interested in ‘doing mortgages’. I didn’t really know what a mortgage was but obviously said ‘yes, that would be amazing!’ Turns out it was amazing, I qualified as a Mortgage Advisor, and after a few year’s experience, managed a team of advisors. After 12 years of ‘doing mortgages’, and the arrival of 2 beautiful/demanding children, it was time for a change.
A strong believer in you make your own luck, I ‘luckily’ came across The ONE Group and was totally impressed by the way they work and look after their people. I didn’t know an awful lot about recruitment but knew this was a business I wanted to work for. Over 3 years later, I am still here, know a bit more about recruitment and combine all the things I enjoy doing on a day to day basis, talking to people, building relationships and finding solutions to problems.
