Commercial

Office

The Commercial Office roles that keep a business running. Office management, administration, customer service, facilities, business services, and the project work that sits across them. Two decades of recruiting these roles in the East of England and Home Counties, with a team that knows the local market as well as anyone hiring into it.

WHAT WE COVER

Our work covers Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, from offices in Cambridge, Peterborough, Northampton, and Hertfordshire & Essex. Many of the roles in this space are urgent. Someone’s left, someone’s gone on parental leave, or a project deadline has moved and the team needs reinforcing. We work to that pace when we need to, while still doing the screening properly.

Administration

Administrators, EAs, PAs, and team coordinators across all sectors.

Team members to managers, in both B2B and B2C environments.

The people who keep your premises and operations running day to day.

From Office Manager to Operations Lead, across small businesses and multi-site organisations.

Buyers, purchasing officers, and procurement managers across office-side and indirect spend.

PMO, project coordinators, project managers, and programme leads.

The wider operational support roles that hold a business together

Senior operational and business services appointments where discretion matters.

How WE Work

We recruit across permanent, contract, and temporary briefs in the Commercial Office division, and we’ll always give you a straight view on the role – whether the salary or rate matches what the local market expects, where the brief might benefit from refining, and which type of hire fits the situation if you want our take. Permanent hires work best for the commercial roles you want long-term as part of the team. Contract or temporary often makes sense for parental leave cover, project peaks, urgent gaps, or seasonal volume. A lot of our clients run both at different times of year.

Our Approach

Our Commercial Office consultants stay in this market (80 years and counting!) and know the difference between an Office Manager who’ll thrive in a small owner-managed business and one who needs the structure of a larger team to do their best work. They understand why a Customer Service Lead from one industry might transfer beautifully to another, and why a Project Manager from agency-side might or might not fit in-house. That kind of judgement is what we bring to every brief, and it’s why most of our Commercial Office work is repeat business.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Working with Sundeep on any recruitment campaign is a pleasure, knowing that she will deliver. The search and selection for my HR Business Partner was no exception. Sundeep had previously found the ideal candidate for me when the role was originally office based. When, for strategic reasons I decided to change the role to be field based, Sundeep as always welcomed the challenge, finding out exactly what I was looking for and the remit of the role, coupled with what she already knew about the business, the culture and me as a manager. Via going to market with a highly professional campaign, Sundeep identified not only one but two high calibre successful candidates. With two weeks before the initial candidate was due to start, they received a counter offer which meant we were back to square one. Not to be beaten, Sundeep found the second candidate for me, which surpassed mine and the business’ expectations. As with the varied and numerous positions Sundeep has sourced for me for the years, her approach, diligence and methodology is second to none. She works to a strict deadline and only puts forward CVs for candidates she has fully interviewed and researched, pulling together a condensed and concise shortlist of candidates for my consideration, knowing that these candidates meet not only the requirements of the role but the personality, behaviours and values of our company. Her description of each of the candidates is always spot on, and I appreciate and respect her honest feedback and advice on the market place. I can truly say, working with Sundeep is like having my very own in-house recruitment specialist working alongside me.

I want to say a huge thank you to Melanie at The ONE Group. If it wasn’t for her believing in me and giving me the opportunity, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Your support, encouragement, and trust have made all the difference, and I’m incredibly grateful. And this is why I recommend Melanie and The ONE Group. I was in a bit of a mess a few months back, I rang The ONE Group for help on the Wednesday, by Friday I had an interview, by the following Monday I got the job, which I am so happy about. The business and the people are so amazing, so if you are ever in a position where you need help, call The ONE Group. Thank you for everything!

Melanie is really professional and really listens to your needs. She’ll help guide interviews, giving tips and advice to help calm those nerves. Always happy to answer questions, even at ridiculous times in the day/evening. she really kept me in the loop through each process, and continues to do so despite me having already started in my new role. Can’t thank you enough!

THE ONE GROUP

Where we're from,
and how we got here

Twenty years of specialist recruitment in the East – and a lot of small decisions that added up.

TOG started in Peterborough in 2004 with a small team and a simple idea: that recruitment is a people business, done best by specialists who stay in their sector long enough to know it properly.

More than two decades on, we've grown into four offices across the East of England and Home Counties. We recruit for finance leaders, HR directors, engineering managers, tech founders, scientists, and the commercial teams that keep businesses running day to day. Between us, we've built up over 258 years of collective recruitment experience across our specialist divisions, and a network of more than 150,000 candidates we've placed, coached, or come to know across two decades in the region.

The founding principle hasn't changed. Recruitment as it should be.

OUR STORY

Key events timeline

2004

Doors open in Peterborough.

Our first office launches with a team of six on Lynch Wood. Cambridge follows the same year, giving us two offices before our first anniversary.

2015

Northampton makes it three.

Our third office opens with a team of five, quickly growing to eleven consultants covering the wider Midlands region.

2017

Peterborough moves across the road.

The team has outgrown the founding office. We move into Arena House on Lynch Wood, big enough for a growing consultant base and the back-office team that supports the whole group.

2018

Cambridge moves too.

Our second office relocates to Cambourne Business Park, giving the growing Cambridge team the space it now needs.

2023

Four offices, three counties, one very good year.

The Hertfordshire & Essex office opens in Potters Bar, extending our footprint into the Home Counties.

In the same year, we're named Business of the Year in Northamptonshire, and Employer of the Year in both Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire at the regional SME Business Awards. Three counties, three panels.

TODAY

Still growing.

Four offices, more than 258 years of collective recruitment experience across our specialist divisions, and a network of over 150,000 candidates.

Same founding principle.

SPECIALISTS BY DESIGN

What we do

We're specialists, not generalists. Every consultant at TOG focuses on one sector and stays in it. Not because it's the only way to do recruitment, but because it's how you build the depth to spot the difference between a strong CV and a strong hire.

It's also why so many of our clients come back to us years, even decades, after a first placement.

Beyond the recruitment itself, we produce annual salary guides, regional market reports, and the practical resources our clients and candidates turn to when they want a clearer view of what's happening in their sector.

THE WAY WE WORK

How we work

Four principles show up in every conversation and every process.
01

Be curious.

We stay interested in the market we work in, and in the people who work in it.

02

Keep it human.

We remember your kids' names and know how you take your coffee. That's just how we work here.

03

Make a difference.

We're here to help people build careers they love and businesses they're proud of.

04

Enjoy the ride.

Recruitment is a career, but it should be fun too. If it isn't, we've done something wrong.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Recruitment
as it should be.
