Executive Search

Senior appointments, with the risk shared

A senior appointment is rarely a response to a vacancy. At this level, you’re usually looking for someone to lead your business through growth, change, investment or succession, and the search has to reflect that.

We’ve been recruiting in the executive search market for more than 20 years, across C-suite, board and senior leadership appointments in every sector we work in. Each search is run by a consultant who already recruits in that market, so the person who finds your Finance Director recruits finance, and the person who finds your HR Director recruits HR. The result is a search that starts with market knowledge and existing relationships, rather than a blank sheet

A fee model that shares the risk

Most retained search is paid for with a non-returnable retainer before any work starts. We think that puts all the risk on the client, so our model works differently:

That gives you security at the start of the process and again at the end. It also makes executive search the most cost-efficient, time-efficient way to fill a senior role

A 98% successful hire rate

Of the executive searches we’ve run, 98% have resulted in a successful appointment. The remaining 2% were
roles the employer put on hold or cancelled, not searches that failed

How the search runs

Every search starts with understanding your business, your goals, your reason for the appointment, and what the successful candidate will be expected to deliver over their first, third and fifth year. This helps us define and attract your ideal candidate.

Our bespoke process includes market mapping and research, direct approaches to active and passive candidates, structured assessment, shortlist and interview management, referencing and due diligence as needed, offer management, and onboarding support.

The same experienced consultants stay closely involved throughout, keeping you informed and your candidates happy from start to finish

ReCENT Appointments

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

“

I have worked with Nick Culley several times. He has been instrumental in securing new Finance Executive positions for me in the role of both candidate and employer. He is a highly experienced professional, very personable and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend TOG for executive appointments.

Director Finance Transformation
“

I worked with Nick on a number of assignments during my 6 years at Sepura. I always found him to be highly professional and knowledgeable , easy to work with and he achieved successful recruitment results on each occasion. I would be happy to recommend him.

Non-Executive Director
“

I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Nick for over 20 years, both as a client and candidate. Nick’s integrity and work ethics are both exceptional, utilising his vast experience to add real value and provide ‘above and beyond’ help and support.
His collaboration skills and networking set Nick apart and professionally he has proved this on multiple occasions; truly understanding the needs of all parties to optimise results and focus time and resources.
On top of all of his professional accolades, Nick is also a thoroughly nice chap; trust worthy, personable and easy going and I would not hesitate in strongly recommending him to both recruiters and candidates alike.

Regional Financial Director
“

I’ve known Nick for 18 years working with him both as a candidate and as an employer. On both sides it has been an absolute pleasure to do so.

He has always acted with the utmost integrity which is not always the case with recruitment.

Honest, genuine feedback is an essential part of the recruitment process. Nick’s feedback has been very constructive and I found this personally developmental both as an interviewee and an interviewer.

As a manager of a team I have found Nick’s advice extremely useful and I genuinely value his support and opinion.

I confidently recommend Nick professionally and I look forward to working with him again in the future.

THE ONE GROUP

Where we're from,
and how we got here

Twenty years of specialist recruitment in the East – and a lot of small decisions that added up.

TOG started in Peterborough in 2004 with a small team and a simple idea: that recruitment is a people business, done best by specialists who stay in their sector long enough to know it properly.

More than two decades on, we've grown into four offices across the East of England and Home Counties. We recruit for finance leaders, HR directors, engineering managers, tech founders, scientists, and the commercial teams that keep businesses running day to day. Between us, we've built up over 258 years of collective recruitment experience across our specialist divisions, and a network of more than 150,000 candidates we've placed, coached, or come to know across two decades in the region.

The founding principle hasn't changed. Recruitment as it should be.

OUR STORY

Key events timeline

2004

Doors open in Peterborough.

Our first office launches with a team of six on Lynch Wood. Cambridge follows the same year, giving us two offices before our first anniversary.

2015

Northampton makes it three.

Our third office opens with a team of five, quickly growing to eleven consultants covering the wider Midlands region.

2017

Peterborough moves across the road.

The team has outgrown the founding office. We move into Arena House on Lynch Wood, big enough for a growing consultant base and the back-office team that supports the whole group.

2018

Cambridge moves too.

Our second office relocates to Cambourne Business Park, giving the growing Cambridge team the space it now needs.

2023

Four offices, three counties, one very good year.

The Hertfordshire & Essex office opens in Potters Bar, extending our footprint into the Home Counties.

In the same year, we're named Business of the Year in Northamptonshire, and Employer of the Year in both Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire at the regional SME Business Awards. Three counties, three panels.

TODAY

Still growing.

Four offices, more than 258 years of collective recruitment experience across our specialist divisions, and a network of over 150,000 candidates.

Same founding principle.

SPECIALISTS BY DESIGN

What we do

We're specialists, not generalists. Every consultant at TOG focuses on one sector and stays in it. Not because it's the only way to do recruitment, but because it's how you build the depth to spot the difference between a strong CV and a strong hire.

It's also why so many of our clients come back to us years, even decades, after a first placement.

Beyond the recruitment itself, we produce annual salary guides, regional market reports, and the practical resources our clients and candidates turn to when they want a clearer view of what's happening in their sector.

THE WAY WE WORK

How we work

Four principles show up in every conversation and every process.
01

Be curious.

We stay interested in the market we work in, and in the people who work in it.

02

Keep it human.

We remember your kids' names and know how you take your coffee. That's just how we work here.

03

Make a difference.

We're here to help people build careers they love and businesses they're proud of.

04

Enjoy the ride.

Recruitment is a career, but it should be fun too. If it isn't, we've done something wrong.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Recruitment
as it should be.
